Chapter 8 with Kendra Lai & Christy Chin
Newbern strives to enable others to come to Christ in a safe and welcoming environment. Today we want to feature the story of two of our members Kendra and Christy and how their artistic gifts in creating biblical greeting cards glorifies God.
Currently, Kendra serves in EMC and Christy serves in our online platforms as well as praise and worship. Together they have recently started another outreach initiative to spread God’s love through the creation of biblical greeting cards.
A couple of weeks ago our church encouraged our members to take part in a Post Card Caring Action, where we would send post cards to our love ones and friends especially those that have not yet received Christ. During the pandemic, due to social distancing it has become very hard for us to interact like normal so sending letters/post cards became a more personal way to show love to those we miss.
In the bible, there have been many instances of letter writing through epistles. For those that are unaware an epistle is a letter written on a scroll and they make up the majority of the Bible’s New Testament (Of the 27 books, 21 are epistles). Enabled by the power of the Holy Spirt the epistles were written by apostles and inspired to tell people about Christianity.
We live in a world where many people claim to be experts in many things, but Kendra and Christy believe the only wisdom we should truly trust is the word of God. As Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 2:12-13, “What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.”
Don’t let your intellect, doubts or fears stop you from responding to God and being captivated by His wisdom. The scriptures we read in the bible are not placed there to restrict us, but instead it is placed there to inspire us to live life even more vibrantly. God wants so much more for us than we could ever imagine for ourselves.
In the near feature, our members will get to see a lineup of biblical greetings cards, which Kendra and Christy will be helping our church to create. These biblical cards will be heavily focused on scripture for the purpose of shining light on God’s wisdom while encouraging our members and welcoming newcomers on the different occasions in their life. We hope this feature inspires you to use scripture to bless those around you!
At the end of the day Newbern hopes to empower our members to find the courage to share their stories and to start conversations about their faith. For Kendra and Christy, it is their passion to create biblical greeting cards, for others it will be something else just know that God wants to use you to spread the good news. Let us answer His call!
