English Announcements - September 1, 2024

1.     Staff News – The church office will be closed on Sept 3 (Tue), in lieu of Labour Day Holiday.

2.   Safety & Risk Management Training – For those who have signed up, the training will take place today at 12:30pm in the basement.

3.   2024 CCC Winter Conference will be happening on Dec 27th-31st at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel. Theme: Living in God’s Presence. English Speaker: Rev./Dr. Ken Shigematsu. Registrations are open and full-time registration deadline is Sept 8th. Please visit their website for details: www.cccwc.ca.

4.   Newbern’s Youth Group is going to kick off again this Friday Sept 6th at 7:30pm. Youth between the ages of 12-18 are all invited to come to this kickoff. Can’t wait to see you there!

5.   This month, we are sending our financial support to Equip to Serve Christian Networks and Union Gospel Mission (UGM). The updated profiles and prayer requests of both organizations will be posted on WhatsApp and on our website.

6.   July Offering Record - Please verify your offering record that has been posted on WhatsApp and contact Elder Roger Hiew for any questions.

July EB Meeting Highlights:

a.   The Board has reviewed and approved the Offer to Lease drafted by our agent, to be sent to the daycare operator.

b.   The Board has decided to start recruiting an ad hoc committee to work on several possible projects related to Newbern’s 50th Anniversary in 2026.

c.   The Board has decided to direct the Capital Committee to prepare a feasibility study and budget proposal for installing air conditioning for the new building, among other capital projects they are working on.

1.     Welcome – A hearty welcome to our guest speaker Pastor Brian Ho. Thank you, Pastor Brian for sharing God’s Word with us today.

2.   We are accepting applications for baptism and membership transfer now. Classes will begin as early as it can be arranged. Please contact Ps Marcus or Ps Andy if you are interested.

3.   Summer Camp Info Sheets are available at the usher’s table at the foyer, for those who have signed up. Look forward to seeing you all at camp!

4.   Staff News – Ps Andy is on vacation from Aug 14th-20th. Please contact Ps Marcus or any of the elders for anything urgent.

5.   The Rainbow Garden team will be having their second harvest this year later today! Children and youths will be helping with the harvesting at 11:00. Join us in celebrating at 12:30pm in the basement for some light snacks and refreshments prepared from the harvest.

6.   The Mandarin Small Group will be meeting today at 12:30pm. Please contact Ps Marcus if you are interested.

7.   Please note that there will be no English Service, DOTS, Children’s Church or Youth Sunday School on Aug 25th (next Sunday), during Summer Camp. Children’s Sunday School at 11am will take place as usual.

8.   Church Clean-up Day – Come join us in cleaning our church on Saturday, Aug 31st at 9:30am-3:00pm. Please bring your own masks and cleaning supplies. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. For more details, please contact Daniel Chin.

1. Newbern Academy is still offering 4 different courses from August to September. Promotion and registration have started. Please spread the word, volunteer, and pray for the students, instructors, and all those who are serving.

2. This summer’s Kids Day Camp is happening from August 9th-11th! Please pray for the children, families and volunteers involved.

3. Lord's Love Church is hosting Vacation Bible School (VBS) with the theme "Breaker Rock Beach." Date: August 19th-23rd. Time: 9:30am - 3:00pm. It's going to be a fun and enriching week for kids with Bible lessons, activities, and more. For details and registration, please contact Ps Michelle.
