Chapter 4 with Ivy Yau
These days Ivy spends her time working with BMW and cooking at home with her hubby. She also serves in the EMC focusing on a ministry we know as Feature Friday. Ivy enjoys writing and sharing real-life stories of individuals on social media. The goal of Feature Friday is not just to create more buzz between members, but to encourage everyone to make the conscious effort to safely spread the gospel during the pandemic.
2020 is all about doing what is essential: For a Christian one of the most essential things is to spread the good news. With this idea the EMC along with the help of Ivy and Eva decided to launch Feature Friday to help our members find courage to share their stories outside of church.
Everyday millions of people post on their social media about their daily lives. The EMC yearns to bring positive change to social media narratives and create more opportunities for believers to reveal God working in their lives. Ivy believes we cannot force people to listen to our stories, but we should not underestimate the power of planting the seeds. There are countless ways we can share God’s story online from day in the life vlogs, short stories and photography we aspire to create things that can potentially spark into meaningful conversations. Feature Friday stories are also being translated into Chinese by Rosa to reach more people.
At the end of the day, we hope Feature Friday can move Newbern members to share their faith because the most precious gift you can ever give anyone is the gift of knowing God. If you don’t know how to begin, don’t hesitate to message Ivy, Eva, Rosa or anyone in EMC. Do not underestimate what you can do for God!
In 2021 the EMC will continue to create a safe platform for people to talk about their faith because they want people to share their stories not just at church on Sunday or during fellowship but with their family, significant others, colleagues, classmates and neighbours during the week. For Ivy it is writing and revealing real-life stories of God’s work on social media, for others it will be something else just know that God wants to use you to plant the seeds!
